    hello,
I've recently been proposed a project for an 8 x 10 foot backdrop for an indoor display. I know absolutely nothing about large format printing and I'm just wondering if anyone has done anything similar and can help answer some basic questions.

    1. Is the best medium to print on vinyl? or are there any better options?

    2. Is the actual design i do in photoshop 8' x 10' at high res (seems incredibly big) or do i design at a smaller size and the printer will enlarge it some?

    3. about what size photos must i use in order to present them at good quality at such a large size (as done on billboards and such)?

thanks very much for your help and advice in advance :)

ask the print vendor what resolution they need. They will know based on their print specs

i like printing on canvas for some looks... also mounting paper to foam is an option, there's th eoption to print in revese, on back of a clear sheet. Then you can back that up to white for a perfect image, or another color for a different look

There are actually heaps of different technologies around for large format printing. they vary heaps in quality and cost. I suggest you get the yellow pages out and have a look through, or ask some printers who you already work with if they can recomend a lf printer.

When you have chosen a format you like/can afford you can discuss output details with the printer.

usually they are lower than 200 dpi resolution

I know this is a UK company, but I guess the same rules apply:
