I'm a mac xpert. Unfortunately all that means is that I know how to use one mouse button

seriously... 250gb.... its funking big!
that mean we can store a truck load of data...
... and that mean we can lost a truck load of data when the computer crash and/or burn.
HOLY FUNK!
- ribit0
A 250GB SATA internal drive seems to be the best value GB/$$
just open the access door, remove clear panel, plug in drive, restart

i'll use my lacie external 80gb as a MP3 hard drive.

expert advise?
externals.
externals.
externals.so when your G5 fucks up... and it will... you have your data elsewhere...
daisy chain and add as you need.
and your G5 will be way faster...
the bigger the drive, the more possibility of problems, the more need for back up and the possibility of the mac guy sayin..."your G5's focked dude... but its under warranty.. we'll make it factory fresh..."externals.
way less dough.

word carty - i have a 250gb external, keeps the g5 fressshh - that's the way to go.

I have all my apps set to a partition of 20GB- and my OS set to a 10Gb partition- when I upated to Tiger it was easy going since all my files and apps are separate.

works fine. get a real H U G E one : )
- de4k0
I run with a 160g external lacie.
nobody has mentioned the seductive blue light though.
Its only THE defining feature of a lacie drive.sheesh

I have a 250GB Maxtor. Sweet...

dont forget you can get external SATA drives too.. same speed as an internal (150MB/s?), way faster than Firewire... slightly more expensive than ext Firewire, and requires PCI card, but no external power.
External Firewire is fine for backup and very versatile though for switching beteen computers..
