OH ya! Go to the airforce graveyard in Tucson as well. you cant really get into it, but if you are taking a telephoto lense, you should be able to get some cool shots.

the TITAN Missile museum. Creepy as hell to catch a first had look at how NOT cold the cold war was.
Also, if you are into bicycles at all, go to BICAS in Tucson. It's pretty amazing what those hippy kids are doing.

I suggest the scenic route from Phoenix to Jerome- hang there at some biker bars and get a room at the Grand Hotel and eat at the Asylum.
Next day cruise into Sedona- touristy but freakin beautiful- you can find non-touristy things to do if you try.
Then take scenic route to Flagstaff and rock out.
Have fun

John Dillinger stayed at the Hotel Congress in Tucson and so did I. Then, nearby is a desert museum full of prairie dogs, snakes, bobcats and snacks.

jerome and flagstaff.
there's a small 2-lane road to California, a small place called Salome - smalltown weirdness all along

I was going to suggest Jerome - what up Micah.
Jerome is great and plenty of material for the camera. Good bar there too.

Guadalupe is definitely the Valley's own version of "little Mexico"
- mr7400
go to Jerome. Nice little haunted town on a big hill.

-----Born and raised in Arizona, more specifically Guadalupe, Arizona.
I invite to come out and pay our little town a visit.
The town is centrally located between Tempe and Phoenix. It's a true community and it gives you a taste of Mexico without having to drive 3.5 hours south.
An interesting fact is that the community is celebrating its 30th year of incorpation this year.
So bring your camera and pay us a visit.

I've lived here for 27 years. What kind of "non touristy" stuff are you into? I could probably point you in the right direction.
Scottsdale is reserved for the fake millionaires. Lotsa dance clubs and flashy bling.
Tempe is the college town. Lotsa frat bars and bad drivers.
Phoenix is a little grungy. Lotsa punk rock and mexicans.
