What is it about designers and chairs?

well, how much time do you spend sitting on a chair?
i'd say its a pretty prolific piece of design, wouldn't you?

prolific as all get-out. i'm just trying to know why.
seems a little obsessive to me, and also kinda show-offy.

i think you might have missed my point?
- ********0
i could give you a good long explaination about why, but nick already cut to the bone of it and gave you the answer.

My chair is a piece of shit, I found it at an office that people were moving out of.
Seen alot of ppl drop alot on chairs though.

I prefer a cloth type chair...sucks to sit naked on a leather chair...if you DO have leather then you have to put a towel down on it to prevent butt sweat and then if someone sees your towel...they know what the fuck you've been doing...and thats no good. Now I just need a pull out under desk lube dispenser....nothing like gettin caught with the KY next to the keyboard. Sheesh that was embarassing.

ahahahahaha.

That was gold.

if i missed nick's point and it summed it up completely. . . would he be willing to rephrase it?

Lisa do you have towels on your leather chair? ;)
You naughty girl you.

yeah i have leather office chair and naked or not naked, your still gonna end up with a sweaty ass in the warmer months.

ok, it's where we usually put ourselves when we're not in motion. and i know there's a piece to it about expanding how we think about an object--going from our limited idea of 'chair' to a the more liberating idea that although we have this archetypal chair in our minds, reality provides many other options for 'chairness.' and once we've applied that to 'chair,' we can think about applying it to other things we view as definitive. am i on the right track? i'm really tired and should go to bed.

I'm not sure what you're getting on about but designers like their chairs because they have to use them a lot like their computers.

Lisa...I'm taking a wild stab in the dark here (not a new trick for me btw, nudge nudge)...but I think you are really over thinking this. I mean...I just use a chair so I don't have to stand...
- lisaj320
aw hell, i'm new to this stuff. i didn't expect the answer to be simple. maybe it is though.
tests indicate that i have a mind that seeks complexity and has difficulty distinguishing important from trivial details.

sorry...
all i meant was that as designers, and people who are generally interested in solving problems of function with beautiful forms, that it would make sense if to be interested in the design of something as ubiquitous as the chair..
nothing more than that.

(Apr 30 05, 22:18)yes but i'm not asking about how or why we use chairs. i'm asking why chairs are so important to designers.

why the hell would you need KY at a computer, it wont make firewire any less tight to fit in
