Who here loves camping, mountain biking, hiking, and other activites assosiated with being outdoors with mother nature...? I have found a lot of my designer friends love to camp and whatnot...
Is this becuase we need to do the opposite of our jobs to feel like its a vacation?

i love the outdoors, but i can't be outside for too long because i get really bad sunburns.
my favorite thing to do outdoors is swim in rivers, or the ocean

It seems weird that you would narrow it down to designers. I've found that everyone loves the outdoors. maybe you just know more designers or something.

Nature is important. I don't think this is the narrowing of outdoors to designers, but more the idea that designers happen to like the outdoors.
I don't know that its a counter weight with regard to our line of work though.
I would venture to say its the artist in us that is awed by nature maybe more so than the business man (of course, not in every case).

nature is boring and smelly. theres little bugs everywhere, even ones you cant see!
plus i could miss something great on TV opr whatnot!

In my experience designers tend to be more.. ummm. small. Less athletic. Less competitive. As such, they spend less time outdoors playing sports, biking, etc. Not to say they all are, but some. Kinda like musicians. Not so great at basketball, know what i mean?

I LOVE the outdoors: Hikiing, biking, boarding, fresh air, plants and animals, etc.
That's why I'm living in Utah, 6 miles from downtown Salt Lake and a 5 minute ride to the mountains...ahhh.
Word my nature lovers!

davey - your location sounds a lot like mine (asheville, nc)

hey Grunt, I grew up in Charlotte (20 yrs)...Asheville is like a 2nd home to me and where I really found my affinity for nature. I had to move west, it's on a larger scale, IE: I live at 5500' now where NC mts. barlely peak 4500'. But I do miss the lushness and greenery back there! I think NC beaches, like the Outer Banks are some of the best in the US! Cheers.

You can tell designers miles away when they come up the mountain.

I'd take my iPod with me and close my eyes!

I love camping. Grew up camping, going to summer camp, hiking, climbing rocks, trees, biking, fishing, etc.
Might go camping this weekend.
Heard a good segment on NPR the other day about how kids are becoming very detached from nature, too many video games and tv babysitters and so little going outside.
It's a big thing of mine to raise kids of mine (in the future) to appreciate the earth and the outdoors. Get dirty. Build campfires. Ride a bike somewhere new.
I could not imagine raising kids without that.

I like walking too, if I can just take my time. As in, I don't have anywhere to be and I'm just hanging out with family/friends.
As for nature, camping is fun if there are people with you who can make it a great experience. I'm not one for the bugs.
