What should I do if a client I am doing a site for (gonna be awesome site) wants their logo to be "redone" in Times New Roman?
I mean really, what the crap?
Should I refuse? So far I have not hinted that I would do it...

use something nicer and pretend it's Times?

refuse and give good reason why it's to their _benefit_ not to have it in times new roman - be insistent and present benefits. sell them on your idea.

stupid clients suck, but as a good designer you need to sell them on your idea and convince them otherwise. your creative...make something up.

make 2 logos, one their way and one your way. make their way look like crap and rock out on your way.

stop being a prima donna and drop the 'elitest' crap and listen to the client, it's their logo and their money.

judging by your site you like using serif typefaces anyway.

I have put together Times in bold (their choice) for them, but I compared it to a garamond and to caslon and even to helv nue so they could see the differences...
I like good serif fonts, my logo is a bit of a hybrid, or at least lacking a few serifs where you would expect them...
Is Times really acceptable?
I don't think so...
Im trying to push a few different garamonds on them easily...
I mean I am gonna redo some of the curves of the font anyway no matter if he wants a stock font for his logo or not...

dont do anything you cant be proud of later...or it ruins the whole thing you have already done....and I think a bad logo can do that.
Are they giving you any reason, why they want times?

(Apr 28 05, 07:59)that's bullshit

from what i can gather, they want times because they decided on it and they have limited fonts to choose from...
i am really trying to help them
not to be elitist or anything, but it would be embarrassing for a company to have times as their logo...thats just a fact...
i wouldn't mind even buying them a new font and taking it out of my pay, i mean it's like 45$ or something like that for a good adobe font...
i think i might offer this...
- k770
have them understand why it's in their favour to pay for a font if need be. don't take a hit on it. it's a nice gesture but they'll expect it from you down the line...
it's like if a girl gives it up on a 1st date, you know you can take her for a ride whenever.

(Apr 28 05, 07:50)word on that. usually they are too unexperienced to notice anyway. :)
i pulled a trick like that once as well.

huh? what? you say times is crap? whoah! that is a bold statement! you know, let me return that w/ a bold statement as well: if you can't do something decent with time you ain't a good designer to start with. period. end of story.
- spendogg0
reccomend something better like comic sans or hobo
- imakedesign0
the client is alwasy right.
until they cost you money.
- Rand0
remember that period when "hip" designers were using times for its vernacular, DTP quality?
- myobie0
I will give them it in Times if I cannot convince them otherwise...
But I do think it would be embarrassing for them to have it in Times...
The client is not always right, especially when the want a giant golden 3d rotating dollar sign made in flash...happened not to long ago...I'm talking like a 800x600 dollar sign...spinning...
That is not right, neither is Times...
