I'm off in a few hours for a weekend of boozing in barca, any suggestions for places to go? things to do? People to see?

You lucky bastard - hope it rains ;)

get in touch with cap, i bet he knows some good places. you should've asked me earlier, silly! off the top of my head, don't miss the macba or the fundació antoni tapiès. bars and clubs are easy to suss - follow the cute girls. stay away from the rambles, and if it rains, be sure to go into a suitable cafe and order carajillo.

oh yeah, a really great neighbourhood is el born, and sod the main cathedral. the most interesting one, architecturally, is santa maria del mar. els quatre gats is a bit touristy, but was picasso's first hangout when he was still being moderniste, and for cheap, exquisite food, visit els quinze nits in the plaça sant jaume. for really great traditional catalan food, go to el musól. um... the top of la pedrera (a gaudí building) is really nice and offers good views all over the eixample and the rest of the manzana de discordia (passeig de gracia). i'll think of more later.

carrer de la princesa is home to the picasso museum which, if you've visited the one in paris, will be a ginormous let down. worth a peek, however, is the textile museum around the corner. if you can be bothered to go all the way to montjüich, the fundació joan miró is wicked, if only for the mercury fountain from the 1929 paris worlds' fair. gracia is the best neighbourhood of all (my old stomping grounds and close to cap's house as well). intimate, quiet and very old. the cinema verdi is great for arthouse films which are subtitled, and the surrounding alleyways and plaçes have gorgeous tapas bars.

The Loft is great club and apparently Blackstrobe is playing there tomorrow.

And El Raval, the neighbourhood surrounding the contemporary
Art Museum MACBA, is pretty cool too. Some nice restaurants and shops over there.

cheers vespa... you always manage to get me with the gay club links!
As for stinky men, I meant a bit rough around the edges rather than stinky... more kind of scaby....with a twitch. And a beard...
