Chet Shing.
I'm thinking of officially changing my name back to that. My mother named me Jason because it sounded alike.
there must be a hell lot of paper work to do, but i feel like its more real.
what you do think?

I had the option of changing my chinese name to that of an English one, but i refused since I was the only Chinese guy in the school and wanted my indepence and uniqueness.
There's no reason why one should have a certain name, but for me it didn't make much sense for a chinese guy to have an english name since no english people would give their kids chinese names.

yes, but the name doesn't matter cos' in school everyone thinks you know kung fu if you're chinese. i got fed up running away from bullies one day and decided to even the score.

My mom & sis have both changed their names and constantly encourage me to change mine.
The process isn't that bad I guess. You have to advertise the change in name for at least a week or two, along with completion of name chg paperwork, go to court, send in for a new birth certificate, then change all the rest of your stuff (social sec., cred. cards, passport, ID'd things). The actual chg happens within 1-2 months time & costs about $200. The birth certificate part takes longer.
But I'm sure the rules & duration of time involved vary from state to state.
Shing rocks! I know you said the name would be Chet Shing, but I know a Shing that is just awesome, creative, and totally loved by all. Chet is just a sexy name to top that off. I say go for it, meng.
I know I've been considering doing the change myself.

my father changed the name of a brother of mine he adopted into the family.
it was only his last name and we used a lawyer.
it was pretty fast and painless

my dad was actually forced to change his name when he came to the states in the 50's. he also had to change from being left handed to right handed.
now, i think you can "take an english name." it's basically an avitar.
