sparker is the man with all the answers you need.

calling mr. sparker, come in sparker.

    the short answer is no.

the long answer is if you got the time and skill...those apps have been known to "run" in wine/xwine or crossover office.

but, that means they run emulated. not native to linux. and you will experience bugs.

    sorry. no ports yet.

there are alternatives. but nothing as robust, yet, to compare with photoshop and illustrator.

gimp and scribus are good. but lack some of the features of adobe products.

now, development wise, screem, quanta and many other foss programs rival dreamweaver in function and features.

no flash. there is a "code" way to make flash type animations...but i would rather shoot myself and then rape my own dead body before writing all that scripting to achieve a simple tween.

look. linux is better than windows. it's more stable, more robust, more secure and certainly has more program choice than windows...literally tens of thousands of open-source programs exist.

but it lacks some big "design" related packages.

my suggestion is this, grab a livecd copy of knoppix or ubuntu, boot to the cd, play around, if it fits, learn all you can and make the migration. if not, then it's ok.

livecd's won't affect your windows install. you don't have to repartition or install linux. it just runs off the disk.

feel free to ask me anything.

i'm tired of fighting this fight here...linux is more than ready for the desktop...except in design. there i said it. i've seen it work, but the fact is, until adobe ports their shit (which i bet they will) it will fall short in the design niche.

of course, osx being unix. my question is why not just use mac? that being said, i am a pc hardware supporter.

    :)
