Anything come close to the quality? Thinking about getting one. Can anyone recommend a cheaper route in a similar size? (20"+)
I saw a 24" Dell flatscreen. How is the quality compared to Apple? And will this even work on a Mac?

Quality is the most important thing to me. The way colors are displayed on my current Apple monitor are almost flawless. I guess I wouldn't mind purchasing another small one with the same quality & working dually, instead of one large one.
I don't know -
Are there any monitors out there that even come close to Apple's?

30" is too big imo, been sitting in front for around an hour or so and just like sitting really close to a big tv kinda deal.. your eyes gets tired of moving so much around with the cursos because if the large work area
get the 23", its perfect size for illustration and such

the reviews in macuser for the samsung were all good

plus that 30" is like 2k!!! i may be able to get one at 1k mind.. still a whack

Sounds like great advice, Designerror. I guess I have to do more research to get the best price for the best monitor. Like I said, I just want quality over anything. I think you've convinced me to stay smaller with a dual setup.
Thanks!

I'm ordering either the 23 or 30 soon but I kinda think the 30 might be too big too.

i use the 2001FP at work. it's a 20.1" flat panel.
besides the apple cinema, it is the most crisp display i've ever seen. still not sure about the colors tho..

the apple cinema displays certainly are sweet as, in product design @ uni we have standard pc's with 17 in tfts, in media design the lucky gits have G5's with dual 23in cinema displays.
pfft still love my 22kg 19in mitsubishi diamondtron.
whilst in the world of crt, SGI sell a CRT which has a system that compensates for the effect of the earths magnetic field on the monitors gun...crazyness.
I think i could sell my legs for a 30" cinema screen after i saw one in the apple store in NY, felt quite jealous when James gandolfini stood next to me and bought one!

brooke, fafaik apple's monitors have sony technology inside of them. it's also thanks to advanced color management on macs that it's looks so great.
i have a sony tft now and it has this brand new XBrite technology and it's amazing!!!
even someone who as an Apple tft was jealous of mine.. :)

yup i heard complaints about tired eyes of 30 inches as well from some people..
there's an archi office where some folks i know work and they unplugged the largest screens and put them under the desk and now use 19 inch monitors for the same reason.
i have 19 inch as well and it's most ideal, better would be to have a second one for my panels though.
even if i had the money i would not buy a 30 inch.. just way too big..

Baller Newman,
Go with the 30". Don't waste your time securing something less expensive. If you got the the 4 g's, go for it.
30" Apple Cineman Display=$2999
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL=$599
Plus whatever your tax is...so yeah, 4 g's.
Anyway, it's a nice business write off for your 2005 taxes.

I had a 30" for about a week, running off a 15" Powerbook...but it was....too big. (never thought I would say that) Had thought the 1600 pixels vertical dimension would be great for viewing our deep page layouts, but its so big you have to look all over the place...confusing. i think two 23's would be better.
Sent the 30" back and got the 23". I also have to work on just the Powerbook a lot when travelling, so switching betwen the PB and 23" seems more natural.

buddylee, you don't buy a huge monitor just as a tax write-off.
you buy it to work easier and more comfortably..

2x20" sounds perfect 2 me.

the ACD's used to use panels made by LG, and now use samsung panels. the dell 2405fpw uses a newer version of the same samsung panel used in the ACD's. the dell though is a ton cheaper. i ditched my lacie and a dell 1901 for the 2405 and am QUITE happy with it. love it:)

I've heard that the 23' quality wasn't as good as the 20' or 30" -- is that still true?

Prices have been reduced on all cinema displays...
