anyone know about using sports team's logos on a website? say if i was starting a business and it's a sports fan site and I want to use the teams logos on my site, do i need to get league or team permissions? or do i need to get permission? we are not selling any products with their logo on it... we just want to put their logo on our pages.
i have been trying to contact league offices but all i get are ansering machines.
i also have searched, but i have not found any answers...
do you have nay answers? leads to answers?
thanks

most websites have guidelines in regards to their logos, NBA / NCAA but if you are looking for smaller coorporations i assume you might have to get written permission. Just so they want to make sure you are not using it for profit.
Most people do not mind as long as you put a link to their site.

no you cannot use them...professional sports logos are heavily protected...it took a full time rights manager several months to secure logo use for 2 MLB teams for a project I'm working on...and this project is even a state funded historical project...MLB owns the rights to online use of MBL team logos btw
it's a big pain in the arse and not to be fucked around with imho

thanks instant..
i have the MLB form for usage that i am going to submit.
so, if i dont use logos, can i use text to describe the different sections? "NFL", "Raiders", "Washington Redskins" etc.. and just not use the actual logo?
what were those sites you worked on??
i'll tell you though getting a call back from NFL headquarters is impossible..

i think you are fine using team names...make sure to have a section of the site dedicated to a statement of copyright "all trademarks, names, etc. property of thier owners" and whatnot...i know how hard it is getting a call back...the project i am on is a nonprofit and had a bear keeping contact with everyone
