I have just left my job and am now freelancing full-time. I need to get on health insurance as soon as possible but the individual plans seem to be very expensive. Has anyone found a solution or have any suggestions for where to get a good rate on an individual plan?
Any insights would be most appreciated. Thanks!

How old are you? Are you sick or something. It's not that urgent.

Just look both ways when you cross the street and you'll be fine.

Go on COBRA...thats what I'm doing.

if you just recently left your old job, you would probaly qualify for COBRA insurance.

your last insurance will probably be effective for a couple months at least. with cobra, you can apply it retroactively, if anything catastrophic happens. or you can do tempo through fortis for about $100 a month for up to a year i think.

in8_v4,
I used NASE before I got the group insurance for my company. They are really good and you'll be taken care of. For about $120 a month you are fully covered with $1500 deductable a year and you're cover up to $5mill. And there's no way your insurance can go up because you are part of the large group.
They are the best deal.

Yeah seriously don't go without it. I do cobra, as well. I know someone who was switching jobs and had about 3 week period where she was not covered. Unavoidable accident, cars flipping off the road, unimaginable sum of money it costs to keep you alive. You never know what could happen.

I am part Native American, so I just use the Indian Hospital at no cost if I have any health issues.
