Anyone know of a good free/cheap blog or CMS tool?
Im looking for something that I change the design to almost anything I want. Something very flexable.
I heard about ExpressionEngine but that thing is around $150.

Thanks.
Ill download it but it seems like its too simple for what I need. I need to have full nav and it needs to be more than just a blog. I need to display my work.
I guess Im looking for more of a CMS tool and not a blog.

more options than you even want to read through:

ahhh, yes. I have built a PHP CMS tool, I havent cleaned it up yet though. If you are still looking for it next week, i think that i will have it ready for the general public.
otherwise,
good luck.TR1

My top 3:
Textpattern: a steeper learning curve but far more customisable than other open source blog software in my humble.
Pmachine: (also made by the expression engine people and no loinger in development as of jan 05 but still very good)
CuteNews: if you don't want to use MySQL backened and just use a pHP script with a flatfile.

I use this one for my website. pretty flexible. also try aj-fork, a more enhanced using the same source code. this last one with wysiwyg and an excellent image upload manager. its template managed so you have a lot of freedom with yuor design.

AJ-FDork is a cool variation of the CuteNews script - but be warned. The guy who made the AJFork variation of CuteNews is a Standards Compliant nazi and AJfork does not render well at all in IE. If you are creating a site for the general public don't use it. If you are creating a site for know it all web designers, AJ Fork is good.

Thanks Tick. I tried TextPattern but I couldnt find any kind of manual for it so I was just lost.

you have to remember that a lot of these programmers do not waste time with writing instructions. Most programs will require you to create your database and run an install script.

I use textpattern and love it it took about 1.5 weeks to get really into it. Like you said there is no real documentation down now since it is a pre release of a final version but in the forum there are multple listings of what people are trying to do . Once you get the hang of it you can pretty much figure it out. Here is a link to the document wiki that might help you out a little ...

and the forum
Good luck

is simple and easy to use - and FREE.

Wordpress is cool and totally nebie friendly - I just found customizing it for layouts is difficult - I found textpattern, cutenews, pmachine and expression engine much more friendly to different design ideas.
If you just wanna blog then no doubt go with Wordpress. If you want to use a opensource freeware CMS tool for a custom design I don't think WOrdpress is the way to go

i used movabletype at http://scarabin.net
