The longer I live the more I'm sure we live in the best of times. We are so used to what we have that we don't appreciate it.
Just imagine a visit to the dentist 100 years ago. Or 200.

Ok... I'm not sure what your original question is, but this is my take.
Every individual is very powerful in thier own rite.
These days, people seem to spend energy on the negative. Let's call it BBB (Bitter, bitching, bashing). You'll hear the same people cry out that the world is mediocre. That there is no more true genious, as if inspiration is dead.
i think as a collective, people unknowlingly create this situation. Instead of creating, or being inspired, people will invest time into finding reasons why it doesnt exist, hence furthering it's non-existence.
If you look at problems from a stand point of wanting to do something better (ie. if you feel that music, or art, or whatever is mediocre) then what you should do is find whats lacking for you, and fill the hole. Everyone will BBB something else, everyone has their own hole. The goal is to realize it and contribute your energy to make it whole again.
So you say we are lost, that there is no genius, that Moby sucks, or you hate so and so...
Take the opportunity to be a genus, make better music, or music that speaks to you or is spoken from you. Chart your own map, you have the power.
Once enough people get up and snap out of the attitude of BBB the collective energy will get more positive. It's intagable but it's the food that will feed the next Einstein, Beethoven, or DiVinci.
In short, griping about the shortcomings of the world will, in a collective energy sense, make the world worse. It becomes a vicious cycle.
