Do designers really need the "idolization of rock stars"?
How would you respond if you were asked to be idolized on a poster?
How much more self-obsessive, irrelevant, and masturbatory can design get?

It's like that great saying respect the elders or you ain't getting jack. And elders don't credit young people ''me'' for any great ''life consuming'' achievement if one just happens to fall on it by chance.

I saw stephan sagmeister at an AIGA thing once and he did a bit in his presentation on what rockstar designer was most like which famous actor.
It was lame. Everyone is the audience who laughed or clapped was just desperate to be in the know.
If sagmeister was an actor he'd be gilbert godfried or sinbad.

Knowing that your work has influence other designers is enough of a reward. If they want to be idolized, well I say they are in the wrong industry.

i think its cool. we idolize actors, signers, porn stars... now its time to idolize engineers, programmers and designers

if you want to honor the designer put his work on your wall, not his pimply mug

One of the differences between a designer and an artist is the desire to be famous.

(Apr 18 05, 16:01)No, people got to be able to see and idolize gods, and by gods I mean anyone with a talent not yet recorded or even registered by oneself but kept to the subconcious. If I'm right god created us from his image, making us gods as well. Or am I wrong?
Why do you think I'm going to walk around with a damn camera, im in the ''15min timezone'' but alone. My life time achievement is timetravel or immortality, ''creating life'' is easy, I alread have the know-how, and I'm not talking about life associated to me in any way shape or form.

Maybe designers want to be famous, and artist wants his/her work to be famous?
Most artists I know like to be anonymous while designers tend to crave a spot light. Then this is generalizing... I'm sure this isnt always the case.
