sorry for threadjacking and its utter irrelevancy of it all but i've been in ottowa once and it's really the most boring city in the world. i love canada but canada seriously could do without ottowa. sorry to say it but it's true. i'm still traumatized by it.

word rabbatski. Staying in Ottawa is like being in a coma..Montreal on the other hand is great, if there was more business opportunities there, I would definitely move from Toronto to Montreal..
Anyhow, sorry to continue the derailment of your thread

i did a small tour, toronto, ottowa, montreal and back to toronto again. toronto and montreal rock hard! especially montreal. but ottowa is like you said, like being in a coma. i think the most exciting thing there must be the hardrock cafe or something.

haha! If Ottawa was a person, it would date Wisconsin.
- rabattski0
i think even hengelo is more exciting.

I was in Ottawa once, I never plan on going back. I'd rather live in Lapland.
- Jaline0
wtf? *puts on punching gloves
- Jaline0
Wwwwell, we're still the capital of Canada! So there! Beat that!
Alright, I agree that it can be dull sometimes. But seriously, there is some nice stuff around here. For a person like me, who likes lots of suburbs and clean environments, Ottawa is perfect. I'm not much of a partyer either.
- rabattski0
well that was what surprised me the most. being the capital of canada you'd expect something more.
- Jaline0
well what about the capital cities around the world? they're chosen more for military reasons than for 'how exciting the city is'.
Ottawa, for example, was chosen because it was the perfect place to set up important people without them being at risk of attack.
One of the things I love about this city is the beautiful scenery. It's also really safe. You can do pretty much anything at any time of the day.
- rabattski0
weren't there minor riots last year in ottowa? not really riots but a lot of kids causing problems at the same time?
more for military reasons? what do you mean with that? never heard of that.

i would love to visit ottawa and i would WAY rather live in ottawa than stink toronto, i went to toronto and i didn't like it very much...

At first a military building site, then a prosperous lumber town, the City of Ottawa which, by royal edict, was suddenly given the top rank among Canadian cities, had grown haphazardly until 1899.
In 1857, Queen Victoria was asked to settle a dispute between Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Kingston and Ottawa as to which city should be named Capital of the Province of Canada (made up of Upper and Lower Canada which consisted of parts of today's Provinces of Ontario and Quebec). Queen Victoria chose the City of Ottawa as the seat of the new government.

so ottowa was military based. not all capitals are capitals based on just that.
- Jaline0
i agree with you. i just mean that lots of capitals aren't exciting.
- rabattski0
true not all capitals are exciting. the hague, dutch capital, is quite boring as well. but that doesn't mean all capitals are boring.
- Jaline0
yeah, check out PARIS!!!

ottawa does suck.
but there are a few redeeming qualities.
1. Dominion tavern
2. babylon this saturday night (ottawa nt'ers, come see rock and roll and me)
3. that poutine stand in the market.
4. the art gallery is not bad either.
- Jaline0
hey what about them beaver tails, huh? my university is right next to the Rideau River/Canal = lots of ice skating.
The Babylon rocks! Lots of amazing artists there.
- ross0
Jaline, you should come out this saturday. should be a great one.
