thanks for the response!
I thought this was going to be a dead thread! Maybe it's too late in the week for these kinds of questions?
I quess easier communication ensures that some type of global "standard" is set and this can only be a good thing.
By the way - have you seen the Gingerbread Kamasutra?
Sweet biscuits!

If you take a spear and stab yourself with it, you bleed red.

its a one world planet now, i'm a firm believer in one time one currency and believe in international design as it is easy for one to travel the globe, it should be just as easy for your mark or logo to do the same
design for the largest audience possible imo

Agreed - but can "local" things affect our work?
What are the things which make you different from the flock and where does this come from?
Not all of our influences have to come from the stuff we see online. (although it's much easier to work this way - see what someone else has already tried and rip it off - nothing wrong in that?)

the one currency idea will never happen.

i see online and NT as the anti inspiration, all those things exist and anyone can find them.
alot of profiles here use this and that style and motif so imo they all run together
at the end of the day its knowing you made something you are happy with that the client can strongly stand behind and be happy about as well.
my point being if everyone on NT thinks option 4 is the coolest, but the client chooses option 2, i will make option 2 as good as it can be
the client needs something they can be proud of and stand firmly behind
it is afterall their success, business, and livlihood that should matter most to us
not just making sure we have a bunch of cool logos in our portfolios

dude think about it. how can you compare modern technology creations with currency. you really think the american government would ever let that happen.
- Mojo0
I think yes, but at the same time, we all gain inspiration and are influenced from all kinds of different cultures!
But going over to the swiss thing again, Perhaps I am referring to what was once known as swiss design and has perhaps become a variant. I think I know what this international design is, but it seems to have more influences.
We need some definitions and some examples.
- version30
the american government is who i was referring to in regards to the one currency thing.
they dont care who is in poverty, they just want their cut
look at the euro and all the currency it replaced
it can and is happening
- rabattski0
the euro replaced 100 currencies? ehm no it did not coz there aren't 100 different currencies in europe. unless you count currencies like melons, beer and hammers. :)
anyways, i think we can safely say that fast and easy access to information changed the graphic design landscape and it's differences. western cultures we're talking here. the 20% part that uses 80% of all resources worldwide.
- version30
back to the design:
again its an international society
satellite tv shows us tv grom around the globe
online tv shows me news and entertainment from every nook and cranny of this planet
the magazines we read are worldwide
each hemisphere is more influenced by the next more than we realize

simply delusional, why ignore the euro statementit replaced over 100 currencies without regard to the less economically sound environment
- Mojo0
I was just thinking - you are always influenced by whatevers around you.
Your group of friends influence you all the time, and definately change you to whatever extent.
I think that any other musician will agree that you create what you listen to. If you listen to blues all day long, you'll probably end up creating some blues licks or something!

well the euro works because it only includes countries with similar developed economies, that's why the baltic countries have to wait a couple more years to join the emu.
