G5 RAM Upgrade?

so i'm on a 1.8 ghz single cpu g5 tower and want to install some more ram.
first i'm told that i need 3200 ram, so i buy some and it doesn't fit. so i figure out that i need 2700 ram and i buy a 512 stick and plug it in. when i check my system properties IT DOESN'T SHOW UP.
what the hell is going on here?
i found this article that says that i have to have a matching pair of sticks in order to make it work...?
"...Additionally, some computers support Dual Channel RAM configuration either as an option or as a requirement. Dual Channel means that RAM modules are installed in matched pairs, so if there is a 512MB RAM card installed, there is another 512 MB card installed next to it. When Dual Channel is an optional configuration, installing RAM in matched pairs speeds up the performance of certain applications. When it's a requirement, as in computers with the Mac G5 chip(s), the computer will not function properly without matched pairs of RAM chips."
please, someone tell me how to upgrade the ram on my mac.

eh... take 'er to the Apple store and let the psuedo-intellectual cock-bag behind the counter handle it...
.. then it's their problem.

i don't want to pay someone to plug in a stick of ram when i can do it myself...
anyone else?
- PonyBoy0
dude... I don't think you have to pay them...
... or so I'm told.

mine was installed for free when I bought a G5 and upgraded memory. Im pretty sure its free to install as long as you buy it there.

hey scarabin try here

you have to install 2, so if you wanted 512 more total, you should buy 2 256's - one for each side of the ram slots, otherwise buy another 512, and you'll be cruisin'
- Neuarmy0
..and there's no reason to have someone do it for you - or lugg your machine somewhere
- scarabin0
crap, the 512 stick i bought says "not dual-channel compatible"

i feel lame for having a hard time installing ram for chrissake
- PonyBoy0
hahaha... you should!!
but like stated above... if it's free.. and you're having a shitty-time doing it yourself... let the Apple twits fuck it up so it's not on your shoulders.
- Neuarmy0
You're not having a hard time installing(all you do is plug it in)
You just don't have the right thing to plug in, dangit..*no apple twits for you

The cheapest, best RAM. Installed it on all my personal / work CPUs. Has a great memory finder tool. Every Mac is on there.
