Hey, i was thinking since there are many softwares like the whole virtual desktop i guess its called where someone else can view , and or record what your doing on your computer.
Do any agencies do this, tried doing this? Anyone ever work under these conditions?

i know my emails are read, i know my phone is recorded, i dont skip a beat because of it.

I've worked at a few places that do this. The most annoying was at a small firm where the twerp boss would monitor what I browsed- he would then bring up shit I had been reading into conversations. A lot of places do this shit.

it's really easy on a mac with remote desktop, you just click the computer you wanna look at and wupti, you have the users screen on yours too.. you can even take control of the mouse pointer and shit
and the other person don't know of course..
i use when i'm too lazy to walk from my iBook to my iMac to do something..

Well, then i will be more aware of that in my next job. Is the any violation of privacy, kinda doesnt sound like it. Would they have to mention them doing this in any work agreements contracts or anything?
I was really interested in seeing how common this is, or has been becoming.

I don't think it's all that common in the UK - least not in small firms.
I have a hand in running our email and net systems at this company and I've only been asked to "spy" once in 4 years.

People will always find a way of abusing technology. Easiest way is to leave your own work/pleasure at home.
However, it's a double edge sword.
Shift the balance of power, you could always spy on what they are doing!
Makes worktime fun!

any system administrator can set up your operating system with all that stuff. if there's a market for it, then someone will produce that stuff

It would appear that a lot of companies produce stuf, without there being a market for it.
Hence, why the need for "marketing"?
The market is created by the companies who produce the software, get you all paranoid that you boss is watchin' you.
But of course he's watching you, you didn't think he'd pay you to sit there conversing on NT did you???
If you are feeling paranoid, you could always just have a sly look over your shoulder! - you will know when you are being watched!

when i worked for... erm, a place i once worked had MacOS 'timbuktu' which was a great piece of cross-office sharing software, but then they started using it to basically record everything you did... no-one used it no more... well, except the stoopid people...

What I'm saying is that software developers know that companies want to spy on their employees.
So there is a market for them to produce such software.
Generally, you sign a waiver for your employer to do that, whether you know it or not, once you sign up for work.

yup, lots of workplace computers are monitored through various equipments. most of the time your email is watched.

I don't know if my place does it and I don't really care.
If anyone is reading this, my review is three months overdue.

On OSX you can see if Apple Remote Desktop access is enabled on your computer in Sharing prefs...but may not be able to switch it of fif you arent an admin. They could use something else of course...

Why do we get employed if we are not trusted?
And
How do the companies who are developing the "spyware" keep a track of their own eployees ???
As for work contracts - I don't have one. Welcome to job security on a knife edge!

my company probably spies on its employees a great deal for being such a small business. they read emails and block sites people use too much like all email sites even though we do email marketing and i can't test out how an email i made looks on hotmail, yahoo mail or gmail.
spying on us paid off i guess, someone that used to work here got caught stealing database files with customer info like credit card, email, address. he got sued for $1.4+m i think or $4m. the company had to use money for our bonus to pay of lawyers.

Nice big brother poster. I always thought i was being watched at my last job. Thoughi dont think i was. It was really a laid back atmosphere in general.
I did though watch what i wrote in my emails.
Then again, on PC's ifyou have pc anywhere , or remote desktop off, wouldnt the spy software be running in your process, or hijack this could pick it up?
or are they that sneaky these days?
