paperwork is underway. sounds like a simple work permit transfer operation. standard procedure. i have to give a month's notice at my current place. should i do it now, even though the application hasn't been accepted? or hold out?
- Kes0
do it

i know YOU think so. will you really marry me if it all goes tits up?
- Kes0
I promise. As long as we agree to have a quicky divorce after, and make a prenuptial agreement that you'll keep your hands off my "assets". Other than that, yeah i'll do it.
(:

well fingers crossed for you!
I'm swimming in projects at the moment and the missus has come in to lend a hand with some photoshop.
I have a headache that hasn't gone for a week, not sleeping too well.

What's the rush? I would maybe wait... Hope she sends it soon though... I need 'selene!

i'm just thinking that since it's going to be a whole month from the time that i give notice until i can start work that it's better perhaps to start the process now. but i certainly don't want to shoot myself in the foot.

Para, if you are to marry, make sure your prospective groom has a back log of ID documents available: dupes for birth cert, marriage cert, 3-4 months worth of bank statements+utility bills to show proof of address, wedding photos, etc. I'm going through this right now and it's taking forever.

numberoneson - What do you need to do to sort that all out? could be on the horizon for me too in the nearish future - links would be gratefully received - just to know the score...

first off, if your fiancé is not of EU origin, and you are not married yet, then you need them to enter on Fiancé Visa status which will last for 6 months during which they cannot work, they are allow entry only for marriage. You can apply for extra time after your 6 months are up but it's not easy. The Fiancé visa is applied for at your fiancé's british embassy in their own country.
Then once you are both in the UK, get married (this can take about 3 weeks max as you need 15 days announcement time - don't ask me why) and then you apply for a permit to stay which is for 2 years and in the last month of the second year, you apply (AGAIN!!!) for a permanent residence permit which is forever. This long-winded process is to weed out the marriage for convenience things - Para take note.
Oh, one more thing, each time you send in an application, it costs money. I can't remember how much the fiancé visa is, it differs from country to country, but the permit to stay here after marriage is about £155 by post and £200-something in person which is then issued there and then on the day, but it also means a trip to Croyden and waiting for ages.
Any further questions, email me.

Thank you very much indeed. Sounds a pain, but then it can't be too easy for obvious reasons.

i think Kilroy will have something to say about all these shenanigans.

oh and Para, I would speak to someone at immigration, try and get some advice before you give in the notice. See what they say.
If it's all a formality then hand it in, if it's still a bit ooh-ahh then hold off... I'm sure the Determined One will be able to cope!
- paraselene0
well, if moth can take it, i'm better off waiting until all the t's are crossed and i's dotted. i'd hate for this to cause some sort of immigration issue!

Oh don't wait for me. I'm already on the phone to immigration (well actually I'm on hold because I'll be damned if I'm dealing the Indian chap on the other end - he's off to find his (White, British) superior. It's not his fault. If I ran the country he would have had elocution lessons for 6 years before getting the chance to get his feet wet at Dover docks. But I diverge.)
Frankly, you're all in trouble.
