sorry to be a bitch here now.. but what's the whole point of a white band around yer arm???
is it just to show: "lookamme!! Lookamme!!" Whilst your cramming your quarter pounder in the back of your throat at McDonalds telling bypassers: dude! at least I am against poverty and shit! i just don't tolerate it any longer!" One more milkshake please. Supersize that!"
can't we just donate and be less posh about it???????

I sooo see your point. I mean there are bands that u can buy here, which say "Stop Bad Fashion". Those make no sense at all. But the point is, its something that people take notice, and ASK you about it. And if your not a trend whore, and actually know about it, you educate.
I think people should take a "how much do u know about the wristband" test before they can buy a wrist band.

i like that "at least I am against poverty and shit!".

The type of poverty that we see in the world today is truly unacceptable. There is poverty in our own back yards, imagine what could be done if all those children had a fair start. They would be part of the solution and not the problem.
I also agree that many of these efforts become pretentious after a while, because it becomes a trend rather than a movement.

hahaha don't get me wrong though.
after VanGogh (Theo the filmmaker lat novemeber) got assassinated our prime minister thought it was a nice idea to have everybody receive an orange or yellow (cant remember) band to wear as a sign of respect for other cultures! but it did not change a goddamn thing it only temporarily stroked the ego's of the people wearing it..
for me.. well i just stroke ma wang with it.

I'm all for it. So whos going to give me some cash then?
- lowimpakt0
It would be nice to walk down the street though and see everyone wearing an armband. To show that the issue is part of peoples lives and more than a few coins thrown into a bucket.
no harm in imagining.

why a band?
why not wear a t-shirt that says 'stop poverty' and the url to the website?
not fashionable enough?
- vburo0
yes so these people threw a buck into it and got a band..
so what is it what you really like to see?
that were actually doing something about poverty or that we are rather occupied in showing we did something about it???
i find it pompous and self-loving..
has nothing to do with helping people imho.
- lowimpakt0
what would you know about helping people????????????
:)
- vburo0
eh?? i don't get it???

no offense but i just don't think wearing bands will make the starving people happy...
donate and be silent about it.
please.
- vburo0
btw it is also important to know where we put the money..
here's an interesting article:

vburo. I think the idea with the band is that it would act as a continuously visible cue to keep reminding people throughout the year about the campaign. not like a tshirt that a person wears once a month or a march that happens once a year.
being silent isn't enough.
