which brings me to another point...
why in the name of everything under the celestial sun is it that the filling of a sandwich is always "on malted bread" as opposed to "in malted bread".. It's another quandary that I have yet to have satifactorily explained.

i would imagine it's because the entire ethos of the sandwich was borrowed from smørrebrod and so. so the open-faced sandwich is the ancestor of the sarnies that we enjoy today with two pieces of bread. and the smørrebrod would be stuff ON bread, rather than IN bread. does that make sense? it's just an etymological stab in a wet paper bag, but i like it.

aye why not indeed, but for one wee detail... Where I grew up it was always "in" and only recently have they changed it to "on", it disnae me sense.
