ink traps - who needs 'em?

rabattski asked about the value of ink traps in modern fonts...
I'd say they don't hurt as long as you're using the trapped font in sub-12pt. land. Are they necessary? Probably not in most cases. Certainly don't do any good on screen. But in certain printing scenarios (uncoated paper) the traps still do their job to maintain a font's form.
That's why separate cuts for large and small sizes make a typeface so much more usable.

yeah although it needs lots of trial and error per job / per paper etc.
imo using typefaces with inktraps will only be usefull in very high end jobs where details really matter / where you really use quality paper etc.
