tell your current boss that you have an offer elsewhere. if he doesn't give you more money, then leave.

well, do that only if the pressing offer is going to give you more $$

-----------------nah, just lie about it. we're graphic designers, we get paid shit compared to other professions. might as well screw those in charge.

i already ask my director to match with the offer if i stay.
my current company is so unstructured and need to really put their act together which is they are just doing now. till now, web team consist of me and content provider with a backend programmer. i did all the design, production work, troubleshooting, front end programming as well as online arketing strategy.
now they are looking to expand and redo the website completely too. so this is a good opportunity to stay but considering i had experienced hell here it's hard to imagine the good stuff coming.
the company making offer is a very corporate retail business, they have a good site. my job will be art directing the redesign(yes this company is also redesigning) of the web and also there will be some print work. so it'll be 100% creative and none of weird stuff.
these two option is so completely different, i am having a hard time which way to swing.
- grafholic0
hmm.
corporate can be evil though.
me like tiny.

go to the new place. people who stay at one place for too long stagnate
- canuck0
Take the new gig man. I am in a similar situation as you.. The one web guy in a small design company. The projects suck as does the respect level.

it's been only a year at the current job. before here, i've been doing full on freelance and must have been at at last 20 different companies the past 3yrs. i kinda wanna stop that.
i already work with the design director at the new place on freelance base out side of my current job. so i know the working chemistry is good. also, it's more laid back culture then some other places i have been.
i had a long talk with my director and she's making so many promises and doing her best to make the working environment better for me.
this is probably the toughest decision i had to make in a while, aside from wht to eat for tonite's dinner.
- grafholic0
well, while it could be difficult, set aside any sympathy for the current manager you may have.
think about future benefit.
if staying at the current gig is going to make your resume look more attractive, and if you're up for the challenge, then stay. who knows, since you've already been there, you might get to be more a director/managing position than actual production.
if the current work situation, however, is making you stressed out, and if you think you're gonna continue serious search of other jobs, hop onto the offer you have - and hopefully you stay at this new job for at least a few years.

canuck,
actually we have a great art department. we won like 10 or more AIGA awards. it's just web has been neglected and i was positioned in the politically weird situation where i am in marketing strategy team and not art department, i know this sounds sooo weird. so now, i am telling them i am gonna be more on creative side.

when I look for reasons i find confusion.
- tkmeister0
okay, today, i made a decision.
i'm staying at my current job but we will be hiring a producer and maybe freelance production designer.
now i feel much better. i need some drinks to celebrate!!!
