Hey, I think I need a 3D software. I wanna do some quick packaging mockups and the Illustrator 3D tool isn't enough. I've heard about something called Bryce 3D, any comments on that one? or any other suggestions. I'd prefer something that I don't have to pay for. And it has to be easy to learn and be able to import illustrator paths etc.

Bryce is for landscapes.

try blender, its free

You wont get ownt for nowt, but things like Rhino, TrueSpace, Cinema4D etc.. are easy to use.

I think you still have to pay for Bryce, but that's just a suggestion. If you're gonna steal, steal big, get a copy of 3D Studio 1.0 for DOS. You'll be beating yourself silly trying to get the thing to render at 320 x 240 with unsupported drivers.

ok so this blender thing... is it any good? it's the opensource program right? I think I downloaded it once but couldnt figure out how it works?

the only thing i know about 3D is - DON'T use Bryce

3d swift is easy to pick up.
though only really used for the internet.
