almost finished this little project.
maybe you all can tell me something about the performance on various platforms, processor use, legibility, usability etc etc
- imakedesign0
nice work.
at times the CPU usages shoots up a bit too high, might be cutting off a few people with that. depends who your target user is.
font is a bit blured.
is it text only?
- blaw0
good concept. perhaps you could speed up the initial animations and get that nav to the visitor quicker.
i was looking for samples, images, etc., too. you aren't going to show any?

couldn't find images
font blurred [and dated imo]i hate splash screens
[explanation]
ive already clicked the link, or typed the url, why make me enter the site? can't we just get going?at least another window didn't pop up
on window resize it seems to understand whats going on, never froze, but slow

yeah, CPU usage.
i'm a terrible autodidact actionscriptcoder,
so if you have some points how to improve the efficience of centering the content, i'd love to hear them.
now i've used some onEnterFrame scripts. not very CPU friendly, right?
- imakedesign0
yeah thats probably it.
make sure you delete you onEnterFrame scripts.
or you could try using SetInterval or even better if your using mx2004, the mx.transitions.

pleasse, go on.
maybe you have some examples or links on this?
using MX btw.
- imakedesign0
- delete this.onEnterFrame;
- i dont use setInterval much but its based on time rather than framerate (might be worth dropping your frame rate a bit, helps with CPU)
- mx transitions are really useful but only in 2004
nice tut here.

Looks nice. It's a little too cold though, you could work up a few simple icons to add a bit of contrast (see http://www.ourtype.be/), and try reversing some pages - i.e. red background with white/black type (you hinted at this with your intro). Your smooth actionscript literally makes the site, but does it rely on it too heavily? - this would not work as a html conversion. Technically the 'download article' links didn't work (OS X 10.3.8 Safari 1.2.4). Aesthetically, I find the arrows behind 'out-of-the-box' with their rough edges to conflict with the extremely clean cut typeface.
- stewart0
well well well Tiina
that was very constructive
thanks.you know, when you think you're done with the 'design' in illustrator and start coding you may loose the eye for those things.
(speaking for myself)i'll rethink a few things now.
don't worry 'bout the pdf buttons, this chapter is still fake.

def delete yr onEnterFrames or setIntervals
I have found that there isnt much between them in terms of cp usage.
but have noticed that cp usage shoots up the larger the object being moved, or quantity of objects.
hope this is of any help ;)
- imakedesign0
also avoid using to much alpha.
mx.transitions seem to be a bit better than onEnterframe CPU wise.
i would not sweat it out too much tho, sites like billyhavery.com has similar usage to yours and
- stewart0
and... ?
billyhavery.com?
- imakedesign0
oh sorry i was going to say i saw a site that used twice as much cpu as your site and it was up for one of the big awards.
- stewart0
yeah okay, but billyhavery.com is dead?
