apple design

It seems like the latest designs by apple have improvements of functionality and all.. but in terms of aesthetic, it seems like its taking few step back... not as smooth.
For example:
Ipod
The new click wheel ipod is great, but I still think the version before the click wheels have much better aesthetic and balance. The color and thickness of the click wheel of the new version make it look and feel a bit cheap... and don’t let me start on the Shuffle... the whole thing about no LCD and saying it there is no need for LCD is a marketing genius than a design “revolution” its just a way to cut cost, and improve profit. There are lots of great reasons to have a LCD even on device like Shuffle. With out LCD means if u do want to hear “that song” u wanted, you must hear each song individually (next, next, next, next button) until u hit the song u want to hear.. since that is the only way to find out what song is on...New Imac
The thing just don’t look balance with the huge white space on the lower part of the screen. It just don’t look elegant... even the last version of imac is very funny looking, I think that was an very unique design. It almost seem like they try to show off technology, “hey look, we can prove we can make everything to fit into a LCD screen”
what u guys think?

the original imac was ridiculous looking. not a very timeless design.

im not a big fun of the CANDY imac also, but i still respect how they can pull it off and market it. it was great i think. And i still love the Lamp imac.... but im not sure about the G5 imac... i just can't look at it... its very unrefine.

I agree setsolid, I just purchased a new moniter and went for the sony as opposed to the apple b/c the apple monitor wobbled when i bumped it. It's a very small thing, but when you are forkin over $2500 for a moniter you want it stable, you dig?

I agree too, I've never been a huge fan of these Mac computers. I liked my old beige 7200 best. I think I actually prefer the design of some of Sony's towers/desktops...

you can mount the Apple monitors on a VESA-compatible clamp system (like the LaCie photon20vision clamp/stand thingy)...much nicer.
re iPod shuffle... referring to it as just 'a way to cut costs and raise profit' is being overly cynical isnt it?... its simply a new product with its own mix of features and size at a new price point. Put in a screen and its more expensive and heavier...and next thing you know you have an iPod mini.

I dont really dig all the white plastic, that is just a personal thing though. The Mac Mini is really great looking.

i wonder if apple will dilute its brand by over exposure.
once a product becomes trendy, it tend to lose it core design value.
like how Sony failed to revive it self with the walkman line.

I'm a geek and all, but I will never engage in a PC/Mac argument. I was just making a statement...

it is a little known fact that the apple shuffle was created after Steve Jobs said "make an ipod that most anyone can stick up their butt"

minimac is fucking sexy

i like macs because they work. end of discussion (for me)

the reason apple maintained it following is cause they stopped licensing the Apple platform where as PC freely licensed it out.
i give 4 yrs for apple to get in to home media business rahter than computer business.
