Does anyone know how to show a preloader on a dynamic jpeg? I know how to make a preloader... and I know how to call on dynamic jpegs... I just can't seem to place the preloader on the dyn image. I've looked here and all over flashkit/google... any help towards a good tutorial would be great. cheers.

It's not possible to use the "standard" preloader on an external jpg. It is possible to do however. You must use the new MovieClipLoader Class, which includes several listeners for external content, such as onLoadComplete, Start, Errors, Progress, etc... Check out this link or even just look within the AS dictionary in Flash itself. Hope this helps a bit.

although the preloader didnt move :/

function82, you're using Firefox I assume? I've had problems with called functions and FF before...I'll write a quick fumbelcocked manner.

Alright, all is well again. The actions are contained all on the button unfortunately, but it's the same code.

it was in safari, not sure if it just loaded too fast, and the bar didnt display motion
i know the function doesnt work in local flash test movies, but i dont think that was the problem

I think it's utter bullshit that I have to cripple my code for these other browsers. I can't use MC.onEnterFrame!
Both have been updated

Use setInterval to check the load progress instead of onEnterFrame fi you can. :)
- fate_redux0
I'll try that setsolid. I actually like setInterval better.
- function820
onEnterFrame should work fine
i thought you were using the MovieClipLoader
- setsolid0
yes, onEnterFrame is like MSG... it makle food taste good fast... but if will mess u up in the long run... hahaha
- function820
explain how it messes up? as long as you delete it after it finishes its task you shouldnt have any slowdown issues
- setsolid0

...................................im like to squeez as much performance as possible on every little thing i do in flash. for stuff like preloader loading bar, there is no need to run the code 30 times per second if your FPS is set to 30. even 12 time a second is a waste. as the project get bigger, you may have a few onEnterframes going on at the same time... a lots of Flash5 dev do stuff like that... and they forgot the kill the event.... u know, all messy stuff :)

setsolid, you're gonna have to check this out. Because it works fine in IE, but Firefox is still giving me trouble.

All I'm doing is calling _root.Int() onRelease.
- function820
ah, well, not terminating loops is asinine coding... but it makes sense as far as things like a preloader
- function820
its working on firefox for mac
- fate_redux0
function82, that's still tehFumblecocked code. This is the new version:
