hey does anyone have a sitemap for a complex sitemap? what would the sitemap look like if I were doing a site like newstoday.com with iframes?
or would it look the same but then there would be another document/sitemap that would dictate what goes in what frame?
I really need the help....can anyone point me to any examples?....thanks...

this may not answer your question directly, but it might help you with your project.

maybe I should have been more specific..... its not an external sitemap.... its an internal one... for a developer to see what I want... I came up with color coding which pages where...etc...
its a login system and its similar in design to newstoday with swapping frames when logged in etc....
its a diagram with boxes etc....
wow this is where an actual degree in information architecture would come in handy.... my brain can see what it wants and can explain it but I can't seem to translate it on paper....

main page = parent element
iframe = child element
content options = sub-child elements
do it the same way you would if they were individual pages...
site maps show the hierarchy, accessibility and flow of information, not where that information visually inhabits the layout..
to show where the content will load etc. you should make wire frame schematics with detailed notations that correspond to your site map...
so the answer to how to make one complex document is to make two simpler documents :)
hope that helps

yeah I had thought of that......so in actuality I already did that cause I have comps detailing visual elements.....
but on another note.... found a really good article on diagrams

thanks though.....
hey instatok.... do you have any links to a diagram that has login and logged out pages...
I just want to check the flow...

that article is great...i was actually going to suggest omnigraffle to you
for logged in and logged out states there are a couple of options:
1. make individual maps for available features in each state
2. color code options that are available in logged out, logged in, and both states
i prefer the latter but it can get sticky if there are too many variables

If you're working on a big project it might be handy to study this model:
http://www.jjg.net/elements/pdf/…And make an wireframe of your site first according to http://www.iawiki.net/WireFrames…
Ok good luck
