OK OK...so you think his work is amazing. But what I meant was...why is it so amazing? I find his work more like art than graphics. I have the "Designed By Peter Saville" book and it's a little different to what I'm used to. He actually says in there that he "hates the thought of The Big Idea" - although this could refer to corporate conglomerates that get paid for bullshit.
Exaplin your thoughts on your favourite Saville piece...

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick. I started reading his book at 3am and I was knackered. I'm a mere 18 years old and I think I didn;t quite see the whole Saville thing develop. Not that you guys are 80 or anything, but you know...
I guess you don't need to see it to appreciate it, but I haven't looked too much into the development of design throughout the 80s so I don't know how outlandish his work was.

I have a vynil 12" of new order "shellshocked" it is a beautiful piece of art - there is no type on it at all.

Is it that his work is so layered with concept that it is applicable to anyone, whilst sticking to quite a considered and beautiful aesthetic - take the Unknown Pleasures album - for example. There's no denying the haunting beauty of that cover...

I like how they ragged him a bit in the 24 Hour Party People movie.

my sister's boyfriend does this night in manchester called the birthday party and every time they do it they get someone to design a number for it. they're on 5 now and peter saville has designed the number. he basically ripped off the chanell No 5 logo. quite a funny thing to do really.

he has aa nice selection of work but i dont get all gooey on most. the latest new order stuff is very average and most stuff basic. its better to see some of this than aesthetic mumbo jumbo but still,.

With him being voted "The best graphic designer in the world today" in 2003 by Creative Review readers, I thought that maybe I was missing something - I guess his work was pioneering in the sense that it broke trends before it's time using type and all of that - maybe th eutterly appreciate the values of his work you needed to be round at the time.
Still got love ol' Pete though in his dressing gowns. I wish I had one...flash git
