A collaborative way to organize resources.
I'm working with a group that is doing research on collaborative tools. I've noticed some of the management issues associated with the resource thread.
So we decided to attempt to use a wiki to facilitate organization and management of design resources.
Please help by visiting the wiki, categorizing resources, and adding your favorite resources to the site.
We'll be doing alot of development and analysis over the next few weeks so if you have suggestions or things you would like to see to improve this idea please add a comment.
Thanks.

Me thinks, for designers to want to use DesignWiki again and again it needs to look better.... maybe

Cool idea. Good luck

yeah, I figured the problem I would run into is that it isn't sexy enough to generate interest.
I can probably make the interface a little better..
The reason I haven't done any of the organization is because I have a buttload of other things going on. The idea is that a large group of people help in the organization task to help keep the lists up to date and dead links off.

Particularly in this case, the quality of the imformation you're collecting will depend on what the site looks like, there are still loads of Designers that don't know their way around the web. Unless it's primarily for Web Designers.

So I guess the most important question is..
When you go to the site what makes you say "ah, cool idea" and then close the browser instead of sticking around to help the community by categorizing some resources?
What kind of incentive would keep you there to help the greater good?

I think it's a good idea to keep the same look as wikipedia - it's recognisable and everybody will immediately know the purpose and what it's all about.
And the goal of a designwiki at the end is about information, not about fancy good looks.
I hope it takes off.

Thanks for that olive. We took all those things into consideration when choosing MediaWiki to implement this thing.
Would it take off quicker if I had already organized some of the links? Are there any people interested in helping organize the database?
This is a by the people for the people thing. I'm not trying to promote myself. I'm not even a designer...
