my coworker is wondering if there is any way to remove a buzzing sound from a recorded audio event.
she is using "Peak" on a mac.

You need to get software, expensive mind you, that is able to distinguish different frenquencies and levels.
I believe there is a product called 'Clean' from someone that will kill hihg pitched cracks and what not.
God, I cannot remember. I used to know.

wait before you do that, peak (or was it Deck?) has a noise filter in there somewhere. I haven't used it in 2 years can't remember exactly what menu it's under.
You can filter noise that way, it's pretty good.

you can use a parametric EQ to zero in on the offending frequency and cut it, but this will effect everything within that range. success depends on how intermingled the source and noise are.
if it's a constant buzz, you can in theory mix the noise with itself in perfectly opposing phase and cancel it.
otherwise, there are intelligent noise reduction plugins where you can analyze a section of just noise, and then remove that noise from your programme, but they're expensive and only run on TDM systems. maybe worth some rental time at a protools suite if it's crucial audio.

a nice one for peak is called sound soap, i was able to salvage a video audio because this works so well, you might be hearing the frequency buzz that you need to remove...

oh yes, soap, nice one.
haven't tried the waves restoration plugs, but if they're as good as the Renaissance, then that's the move.
