what does it say? (briefly...)
- vburo0
seriously though, i have once read that a certain group/clan of people in Kenya is completely immune to HIV..
it's weird but it's proven..
- tomkat0
it says that there is some mutated gene-material spread in europe, mostly coming from the big plague in the 15th + 16th century, which causes many people to be immune to the virus
some are like 70%, others are 100% immune.

yeah i read that too, vorm, but this was completely new to me..
shouldnt that be a breakthrough in prevention..?
- vburo0
true dat, tomkat.
but on the level of genetics and medication.. what is possible now will only be available to the public in at least 6-10 years..
- tomkat0
unfortunately yes..

interesting... any of you immune girls wanna mate?
i too read that article vormburo is talking about... that's even more interesting, i don't know if any investigation is going on that direction...

I read this too, has something to do with the immunity to the black death.
I read somewhere that there was a scottish village where all but two inhabitants died because of the black death virus. Just now they found by looking at the dna that they had a gen that gave them their immunity.
The same thing happened on a larger scale in the whole of Europe, all the immune people survived, making their relative presence much bigger. This is btw also an example of evolution where a preceived flaw in someones DNA structure turns out to be having a positive effect and causes the species to evolve.

DNA will reveal a lot. and yes they are investigating the Kenya case indeed. (fortunatly)..
with animals it's even more extreme.. crocodiles (or alligators, not sure!) seem to be immune to almost any disease and infection.. we can learn a great deal from their genetical components.

Yes those creatures who have been here since the prehistory (nice to say that in a good context), are immune to almost any environmental attack. Just take the example of cockroaches (he said cock) and how they can survive a nuclear attack. The same is true for jellyfish.
Evolution is a crazy thing. Compared to a lot of animals we (humans) are still very much underdeveloped.
- vburo0
yup, as a matter of fact we are(by nature) about the most vulnerable of all species..

16% of population in finland and northern russia are immune to aids

HIV is btw a relative simple virus compared to for example the flue. Its symptons are ofcourse much more damaging these days compared to the flue, but the flue killed millions of people more.\
Although I read that HIV has also mutated to a fitter variant called super HIV, being resistant to most known drugs.

nature always has an answer.
