I like Zaha's work, but I agree - there are others in line in front of her ...

I also like the 'work'.
But after watching a speech she gave in Brussels I became quite disapointed of her as an architect. She seemed not to know anything about her own buildings/projects, had to ask for tips from some people of her bureau [poorly paid interns I suppose], too vague in realtion to specific architectural problem solving and a diva like attitude.oh well.

Sejima has done (is doing) some great work. I had the good fortune of hearing her lecture a while ago - very sincere and passionate designer - no artifice whatsoever.

you guys should check the last el croquis and mostly any number of my favourite mag Quaderns [from Barcelona]:
http://quaderns.coac.net/q/index…such amazing work coming out of Spain and Eastern Europe right now.
Kids that have grown up with Mayne's work for sure...

It's funny how, anytime I go into a design forum, regardless of the type of design, I always meet people with arch. backgrounds :)

- ivan_cook0

:D I'm not going to be the one to say it. ;)Anyway - Ivan, are you working full-time in architecture?
- ivan_cook0
ha ha. ask jondj24 about that...
we were having a good conversation about defecting. right now, i'm actually migrating my skills / portfolio toward design (maybe graphic) and looking for an internship.
love architecture academically, but the reality professionally is not for me.
- Solid0
LOL have you finished school?
I feel the same way about "real world" architecture ;)
I worked for a few years, mostly on competitions, because quite frankly I hated doing construction documentation :P
- ivan_cook0
just finished undergrad.

Solid,
I've heard seijima is bitchy in her own office. I know a girl who used to work for her.also, the problem with many young architectural designers is that they can't do construction documents.
they don't know how the building hold together. it disturbs me especially when they talk about theory all day and do some wacked up design with no understanding of materials or construction methods.

tkmeister: Really? One of my friends has gone back to school to get his Masters (at IIT Chicago) - I think he mentioned that one of his studio mates worked for her as well.
I take it your active in architecture then?
- tkmeister0
maybe she's changed, people get softer as they get older. she was working for her a while ago at least 8yrs ago.
i've heard of so many abusive architects story that it's not even funny anymore.
i am not active in architecture anymore. i think i paid my due.
