a teacher would do wonders
- fusionpixel0
actually, it would be even better if you could dictate the code and the program would write it all WS like.
that would be awesome

trust me, you don't want that.
sometimes i use MS visual Studio, and it sort of does that, and it usually ends up ruining my code...
- mattyd0
laaaame. guess i should just learn how to code.
(damnit, thought id find an easy way out!)
- QuincyArcher0
feh, it ain't too hard. it you get something like Dreamweaver, it has features like tag completion...
- fusionpixel0
yeah, you dont need to know a single thing to design pages in DW or Front Page, but of course you ability to create more advance stuff or organizing your code will only be limited by what you know.
hence we have a world full of "web-designers" thanks to DW and FP ;-P

haha, i feel ya fusionpixel. though i got a job designing web pages based on my print work, so i just want to make sure its compliant at least (seeing as my site totally isnt)

i think i'm going to be a doctor...but, i'm not going to bother with learning about human physiology.
- QuincyArcher0
front page is vile. don't ever use it.

is there a piece of software that would do the operations for me? or give the right medication to my clients?
- mattyd0
haha, whoah, hey guys, cmon now...
- fusionpixel0
Mattyd, if you really want to write code the right way, you will have to learn and join a group that will help you develop those skills. There is much more to learn about standards than how to use a piece of sofware that would write proper code for you

in dreamweaver:
create new document >
when you select HTML make sure the checkbox that says:
"make document XHTML compliant"
is checked.
Then, when you are done you can use tools in dreamweaver to check it for standards errors.
Or, just use the w3c validator and it tells you what errors are in your page.
- fusionpixel0
right, but if you dont know how to code, how will you fix the page in DW?
just by forgetting to put the ALT to your graphics and use the Height command the HTML checker will go out of wack
- spiralstarez0
then use the w3c validator
it gives you specs like these:
line 3 char 50: missing alt attribute of the img tag etc. etc. Tells you exactly what line and what the prob is.
- fusionpixel0
:)
I know spiral, but we are talking here about some one who doesnt know how to code. how will they be able to fix simple items like that when they dont even know how to code. they will go ALT who?
know what i mean?
- sparker0
i'm just giving you shit. :)
but,
the thing is, though, that programming and markup is about knowing more than syntax.
standards, accessibility and semantics are concepts and ideals about proper development and use of the technologies at hand. syntax is only a fraction of the whole.
anyone can memorize what php functions exist, or what all the xhtml attributes mean. but, it does you know good if you don't understand the reasons behind using them.
i could teach a monkey to pound html out on the keyboard and have a piece of software 'validate' it. but, it doesn't mean he could build a usable product.
i'm a firm believer that if you want to be a web developer, then you have to actually study the language. independent from any ide or platform.
basically, don't learn dreamweaver, learn xhtml and use dreamweaver if you like it.
hell, i use vi/vim because i think it's easier.
there is my sermon for today.
:)
- spiralstarez0
sparker said it right and true.
fusionpixel:
or anyone who wants to learn xhtml for that matter. the beauty of working with the internet is that if you don't know something about it, you can find it all on, the internet.
I would google: "alt tag what is"
the other day I did it with accesskey and boom in approximately 1 minute I add something new to my brain.
Anyway, just saying the best way to learn is to dive in for me anyhow.
It's keeping it in their that's trouble :-)

whait a minute, now I want to learn XHTML? I thought I was helping the guy who started this thread :-P
