they have some similar ones, but they are very expensive and people over there aren't into tv like americans, nor do they understand our "subscription"-based services as well.

TiVo and comcast have a partnership, TiVo is still owned by TiVo people. In 2006 TiVo will be offered in Japan.

Also TiVo will work with NetFlix from what i heard in 2006.

the concept of cable television is slowly sinking in over there.
but it's gonna take a while to really kick in for tivo to generate a lot of profit, i think... plus, they are used to state of art dvd-r and video recording system so there isn't any immediate need to switch.

They didn't buy TiVo they made a 7 year deal with them offering the TiVo service on any of there box[s] also TiVo brand box[s]

i read the only DVR box[s] are provided by panasonic and some other crappy company, TiVo hold over 70 patents on DVR even in Japan, i think there service will take off in Japan very well.

I have stock in SIRI since Dec or Jan i can't sell or buy new stock till it goes over 7.28 so no. Iv been waiting for TiVo to come to Canada for 2 years now this step into Japan will help them come to Canada NetFlix aswell, the blockbuster offer blows.
