Ok so I just woke up with an hangover, turned on the computer and it is telling me that my 250 GB Lacie drive with all my work and mp3s on it is not formated.
what's the deal?
- rabattski0
wow. that doesn't sound good at all. shit. what lacie exactly are you using?
- chossy0
yep this happens to mine sometimes, I have never lost files so far but I did pop the whole lot onto a different computer that would recognise it then reformat my drive then pop the data back on.

the Lacie d2.
This is really not funny. The drive is only about 4 months old and I was going to get some sort of backup device soon. I didn't think it would just throw out all my data that quickly.
my whole mp3 collection + all the isos and all my work is gone.
fucking computers

is it the firewire / usb one?
- r_gaberz0
yep triple interface and I am using it over usb2
tried to connected it to my laptop, but to no avail.
somebody help me out please, there has got to be something I can do
- rabattski0

I have heard a lot of horror story about Lacie Firewire hard-disks.
Does not sound good mate. Sorry.
- rabattski0
you did? never heard of those. can you back that up wayne or did you hear it from a friend from a friend's friend? :)

just wrote them an email.
hope they are able to help me. I just can't believe this.

i've had two lacies and both still work fine. no problems. i thought they were one of the best when it comes to quality, no?
- rabattski0
wayne made me look (the bastard :)) although it's a no-google day today for me. most reviews / test are very positive. however, i ran into one guy who had 2 lacie d2's crash. that's the only thing i could find though.

ah, 'jesus saves.'

True, lacie is supposed to be a great name in HD's. But out of 5 pocketdrives we own, 3 have had issues with their firewire ports burning out (granted they have have heavy usage) None have experienced this HD failure however. I would contact lacie...hopefully they can help.

My wife lost 4 gigs of files when her 5 month old lacie porshe drive died at Xmas. Data recovery didn't get much back either, word of advice, get a backup drive for your backup drive.

If your going to get a back up drive for your back up drive, go ahead and purchase the Lacie D2 DVD+RW as well.
Burn to DVD.

rabattski.
Are you backing now. hahahahahahahahBACK THE FUCK-UP. :)

i have a a 250 triple interface too, as well as two 500 GB RAIDed..
the 250 died on me like, 2 weeks ago. it wouldnt mount to my PC or my mac.
i called lacie, and they told me to bring it in for repairs at my local shop...
apparently the data would most likely be fine, it was just something inside the drive casing that wasnt allowing it to mount.
so their fix was to bring to he store, and they were gonna take the drive out of the case, and get all my data, reformat the drive, and put my data back on...
a 2 hour process.
$$$$$
:(

Thankfully, this thread has reminded me to call those mofo's at Lacie to see if my wife's drive has been repaired or replaced..
- derek20050
yea, lacie said if i send it in, i wont get my data off it...!
thats why i have to do it locally...
