Ever since i've been on Panther, it crashes regularly. Illy is in second place now, though that's just recently.
Are you on Panther?

i installed indesign CS on two machines (both PC) and on one it keeps crashing and it's hard to get any work done. on the other it works great.
so the one where it was giving me problems, i switched back to indesign 2.0

anybody have Illy CS crash on them?

my illustrator crashed all the time - more like it didn't load. it showed the splash screen and loaded the fonts and plugins and then died every time.
if i turn off about half the fonts i've installed then it works again. it seems like it can't handle more than a certain number of fonts. crazy.

my old illustrator hardly ever crashed. I wonder if it's a CS thing? i don't know anything about creating software, but maybe ?

cs is pretty crap in my opinion - mostly because of all that stupid legacy stuff. compatibility should be the top priority but it seems like it wasn't.
at least illustrator has legacy but there is no way to make an indesign CS file work in indesign 2.0 (as far as i know but i may be wrong)

no there isn't. when ID CS first came out, they said there was a patch to make it able to save down, but when you went online to get the patch they said that it didn't work and they don't know if they can get it to work any time soon.
But on the other hand, i talked to an Adobe rep and she said she didn't have any knowledge of Illy and PS being able to have auto-recovery like ID has any time soon.

i've never used the auto-recovery feature. what does it do?
btw, the booklet i was making, my boss loved it. but her boss hated it.
so yeah, i am back to square one.

auto-recovery is when ID crashes and then you restart it, it brings your document back up close to or where it was when the program crashed whether you saved it or not. It is AWESOME.
Well, if you need help, let me know by phone. we're moving this weekend but if i will help answer any questions if you need it on ID. how long do you have to redo it?
