Is there anyway to get around the user name and password screen that comes in OSX up after a restart?
Trying to get to the computer's hard drive but don't know the name/password it is looking for. Locked out.
thanks

if you have another mac, then hook up a firewire cable to the mac you are trying to get access too, and the other mac you can access.
then start up the mac you CANT access holding down "t". this will target boot, "firewire" boot the mac you can login to. then you can browse the HD from the working machine

but if you are locked out of that mac, cause you forgot the username and password.. then i think you are out of luck

I thought I would throw it across the room. That usually works.

do you know the root account for the box?
you could try to log into the command line and reset the password from there using the root/superuser account.

i believe you can reset the password buy booting from the install disc if you have that handy.
in OS9 you could bypass it by just holding down option on restart.
