It's pretty hard to explain but someone might know. here goes:
I have a PDF file which has text layed over an image. The image behind the text is low res and I just want the text so I can lay over a high res image/
When I open it in Illy it say's I haven't got the fonts installed and opens it using default fonts. I could try and get the fonts but one of the fonts missing is a custom font. Unobtainable.
When I open it in Photoshop it rasterizes it and displays the fonts correctly. However it is now flat and so I can not get rid of the image behind.
Is there anyway I can open the pdf so it just displays the text?
did that make any sense?

i might be wrong, but i might not be.

Open it in Acrobat (not to be confused w/ Acrobat Reader). You can manipulate the file there.

In Acrobat you can extratct the images from a PDF, I don't think it will remove it from the open PDF. You will have to open it in Illustrator.

What is the result of saving a file that has missing fonts? Obviously it will display a substitute, but will it look for the originals next time it is opened or will they have been completely replaced by the substitutes?
I could try myself, but, you know... lazy... 'n stuff.
