Network internet sharing

It seems I can only get Internet sharing to work when I have my own Mac plugged into directly into the ethernet port of iBook that has Airport. If I have both just go into my router, they can't seem to chare internet, only share files, etc.
Would this be something in the firewall of the router itself? It's a D-Link DI 604.
Now I'll just wait while someone gets my IP and hacks my router for my valuable beetle photo collection.

If you have a router you shouldnt use the OSX Internet Sharing at all. Both clients (the two Macs) should just be set to DHCP to use the internet connection supplied by the router.

unless of course its not a wireless router...
...then you will have to get Internet Sharing over Airport to work...but this is not as good as using a wireless router in the first place.

One of the computers doesn't have wireless so the one that doesn't is hooked into the iBook which has Airport. It's just unplugging and plugging back and forth to switch between Internet sharing and File sharing that's a hassle.

just get a wireless card for the other box.
plugging it into another machine just to use a wifi connection is pointless.
if you have a wlan router in place, then it is best if all nodes on the network connect independently.
