I'm running thunderbird at the moment on a 1.25 gig G4 iBook with 512 ram and it runs like a dog, so am thinking of just going back to mail. I was using entourage which was pretty speedy, but the whole multiple identities is a really pain in the ass.
Any sugestions?

i have a love/hate relationship with Mail. it recently deleted all my emails with no warning :(
i use Entourage at work and its ok.. but its a bit screwy too.. i get an error every time i open the program and the IT guys cant figure it out.
ah well

funny... firefox and thunderbird suck on Macs it seems... and apple's software runs better than the thirdparty stuff...
funny how the OS's creator makes software that runs better for it than a 3rd party company..
if that were MS, whether they were making money off of it or not, they'd be investigated...

the 3rd party company just isn't trying hard enough :)

I'd stick w/entourage as it's 'outlook' (ms) and the majority of businesses use outlook to schedule meetings, update calendars etc --- It's the best choice if you want continuity between clients and yourself.
... just a thought. ;)

mac's always work better with their proprietary software.

I'm a big fan of Mail. Can't see one good reason why you'd want to use anything else

I second Mail.
If you are using entourage, make sure you get a good antivirus software, cause most of the viruses designed for outlook run on entourage as well..

Yeah, think I might jump back on the Mail band wagon. Thanks guys.

Mail is nice, but you can't send websites within e-mails like you can with Thunderbird which I'm sure will soon change in Tiger. I've been using Thunderbird for a while on an old G3 and it seems to be doing good but I do prefer Mail.

I use thunderbird. I like it better than mail and can't stand entourage. I run it on my g5 and my old powerbook. Runs a bit slow on the powerbook, but its not too bad.
My biggest problem with thunderbird is that it crashes sometimes when i'm dragging and dropping and use expose. Pretty minor problem thoiugh i guess.

I haven't had any crashes with TBrid, just that when i open a new email or reply to one, it sits and thinks about it for 5-10 secs, then pops up the window... It shouldn't be THAT slow. thats really the only problem. Has anyone else found this?

"If you are using entourage, make sure you get a good antivirus software, cause most of the viruses designed for outlook run on entourage as well.."
i am doubting the accuracy of this statement, though i would love to be proven wrong as only the threat of imminent destruction would overcome extreme laziness and force me to switch.

I recentlyy dumped Thunderbird for Mail. It had been great for the year and a half, or whatever, that I used it, but it just got SUPER dodgy on me. Mial has been rock solid and handles multiple accounts easily. The Address Book integration is great as well. Also, use some Applescripts to hook it into iCal and your set.
