Anyone know how close director is, to the design methods used in flash? Eg: drawing in it, tweening, masks etc?

not very close. i would say the two have different applications. it is similar in that it has library items, but the timeline works differently. almost more like a compositing programme than flash.

erh... does the vector graphics have similar tools to flash.. masking etc?

For vector schtuff use Flash Sprites fer yer vectors...

you can infact design the whole thing in flash and just import it into Director. jobs a good em.
