My cousin bought a bunch of XBox DVDs in Bali but alas they don't work! I guess that was pretty predictible!
When I put it in the console it comes up with Invalid Game Region. Apparently we only play Region 4 here in Australia.
Is there any way to get around this? Some type of converter or something or should I just toss these in the bin?

It's a little piece of hardware - a chip if you will - that allows your xbox to to a variety of things it wouldn't ordinarily be able to. For instance, run pirate games, run a variety of different media, allow different hardware like drives etc.

Anywhere in Aus. Not exactly legal, voids your warranty but pretty much harmless if done right. The person you buy it from will usually install it for you. Go by word of mouth if you can.

sorry dude, I've only done it in NZ. It was about 160 a year or so ago, so it'd be way cheaper now. There are a variety of different types too, some better than others so investigate. Also, look at getting a nice big 160gig hard drive in there too, then you'll have media centre goodness ;)

get a trading post and look in the video games section.
I think xbox mods are around $80 - $100. People will even come and install them onsite if need be.

get your chip here. there are solderless solutions where you just open up your XBox and screw that on.
google "xbox mod" and you should get a healthy cache of results.

You could tsop flash the system... or pay someone to do it. Just google tsop flash and you should be able to find directions on how to do it. Without a chip you have more money for a bigger HD. *zip* mines 200 gigs

in fact, if you mod it and join using XBConnect you can play online with other modsters without paying for subscription.
