for a sony vaio laptop. can i send this in to independent repair people?
i don't know what's wrong with it, or the symptoms, my boss just asked me to find a place that does laptop repair.
suggestions?

i've heard goog things about sony repair. see if you have on in your area and take it there, or maybe you can ship it. i'd never deal with a 3rd party for fixing something like a laptop.

i had a problem with my sony vaio like 3yrs ago, that was before i sold that crap...
i went to sony store then they shipped it to california customer service.
they fixed it, but had the same problem within 3 months. but that was right after the expiration of warranty. so i had to pay a lot for getting it fixed.

actually, all a 3rd party is likely to do is send it into the manufacturer anyway and charge you the added cost.
laptops are disposable computing devices.
the price of non-warranty related repairs equal that of buying a new laptop most of the time.
they're not meant to last a long time. there's no money in that.
where as if you build your own white box desktops/servers, you can simply upgrade and replace components when needed at a fraction of the cost of stock systems.
if someone could make notebook/mobile hardware that can be swapped out then it would be better.
unforutnately, that would add weight and size to the box.
