I used to work for the place that does their catalogues. John Lewis use a custom kerned version of Gill Sans for all their copy. Waitrose use a new custom built font that is very similar to the John Lewis logo.
It's confusing, huh. I kinda wished they had ditched the Gill.

I used to work for the john lewis partneship, and when borth companies in the companies rebranded, they did some articles on it which i never kept, doh!
Bunkum is right about john lewis custom gill sans, the ascenders are all tapered at the same angle as the john lewis stripes.
The waitrose logo is a hybrid of futura and gill sans

I've been working with a designer who used to be on the shop floor. He's a total John Lewis evangelist. It's spooky.
