I dunno where Folkert said it but I totally agree. Anyone can design a simple, UK-look site to show squared-up content... it's BORING!!! That Pawson site does absolutely nothing for me and I clicked on about 3 buttons max, and was NOT impressed with the photography as much as you lot obviously are. Really, what happened to creativity on the web? I'm embarrassed the UK has an obvious studio site style and churns out these brochure sites.

i like the site but there's got to be a backlash against the grid soon. this whole "one idea fits all" muller-brockman approach, i mean i like it (probably cos i can do it so i find it easy!), but it's all a bit safe isn't it?
and yes unnecessary clicks. architects needing information architecture?

i think the stripped back to basics grid system being adopted is a result of the over indulgent bangs and whistles nonsense the internet had a few years back. It's almost like everything got stripped back to start over again, things will get more progressive and interesting but this time based on solid information architecture rather than fat arsed intro sequences and 'emersive' experiences.

yes, soda well said, it just annoys me that we have such a powerful medium here with type, image, sound and motion to play with as oppose to printed matter with simply type and image and sites like that aren't using it.

just because they are not using a serif doesn't mean it is not complex... too much clicking... a multitude of typesizes... using system fonts does not make this a modernist masterpiece... in contrast to pawsons work it is like a spaghetti junction.

hey look, it's one of uk studios Folkert's on about.
- JamesEngage0
funny that you immediately assume he is on about us... i would have to disagree

I'm not really impressed by this in the slightest sorry
- JamesEngage0
it looks like a struggle with the technology at hand... the collaborators page is really unwieldly... why scroll like that with a long thin list.

who said "less is more".. i am going to eat your children!!!! haarrr..
..
the site is ok, the content is super!!

good point soda. but i do think they've adopted the styling of minimal design, form follows function etc, without actually making the info architecture work.
i dunno. i'm working in a brand new deziner building, looking at perfect deziney shizzle all day, IT'S ALL TOO CLEAN DAMMIT, GIMME SOME DIRT!
(sorry too much coffee this morning)

yeah, I agree vespa, I was more thinking in general rather than this particular site. There has been a shift toward function over form rather than vice versa back in the day (was talking to someone about Boo.com the other day!).
I do think we are seeing more sites with a better balance between form and function built on proper info architecture. Maybe it's been a case of stepping backwards a bit to go forward?
Unfortunately this site missed out on the info architecture but just tried to adopt the look of a well thought functionality.
The work is still pretty sweet though, when you get to it!
As for the bbc, just start breaking/soiling stuff!
Take some before and after pictures too...

(Mar 10 05, 03:57)Technically yes, there are a lot of click throughs and the poorer quality of machine the more frustrating the experience, but to a viewer, the information layout is clear, with an economy of typeface and point size, colour and the structure, navigation is simplistic, I think that compared to the last Pawson site, the information has increased, which is better, as before it was too vague. But this site is very much an ebodiment of his beliefs.
- JamesEngage0
technically there are a lot of click throughs... surely non-technically there is too?

i love watching the parallel teleologies between information architecture, architecture, industrial design, philosophy and literature. this is a great debate on that score. it also highlights the speed at which these ideological shifts are taking place in this industry.

i disagree i dont feel this site embodies his work at all
this site feels like a storage unit facility location requiring a different key to enter every door not being able to see what else there even though we are right next to something else
his work is of wide open spaces and roomy lively appearances
horrible contrast
- josimarX0
well said cloned. the navigation & site design does not reflect what I hear is (but aint gonna look at), some good work.

nice work ON the site but as for the site itself, maybe it's the morninig light in the office right now but i can't read a thing.
