Im sure a lot of you already went through this..
so Im looking for some opinions..I have this photographer that want to re desing his site.
The project won't pay much, but its interesting so I took the job.
I did some mocks for the guy to see, and his wife didn't like it, so basically she re-designed everything herself using word, (including his logo, wich is his name with the font "papyrus" on it).She now wants me to build the site acording to her specs, and I really don't think its worth it anyomre if at the end I can't show a good project at the end.
I tried convincing them that we need to do something better but she is pretty set on what she did..
Should I just tell them to find someone else?
What would you do?
- versa0
respectfully decline
the only reasons IMHO to do a job like are for a good porfolio piece, and or more referral work
doesn't sound like you'd get either
explain to them you're dilemma honestly tho - they should understand being photographers

I think the real question is – did they hire you as the designer or as the one putting the stuff together?
You're the creator. You do what you're good at, which involves the entire timeline. When you want your house repainted, you dont have a paint firm painting the front when you're painting the back yourself.
Walk away, i swear to god – in the end, you're gonna end up having nothing related to the website you're supposed to do.

run, don't walk

Ask for more money! More money!
- rasko40
didn't she do well.
leave the 'craft bitch' to her devices.

yeah, if your not going to get a good portfolio piece, or good money, why do it?
don't be nasty, but decline. assuming no contracts are involved.
don't bicker, it won't work.
then you submit something to http://www.clientcopia.com

I agree with jox,
find oout what you were actually hired for, the design of the site or the development of the site
if you were hired to design then design the site...
if you were hired to develop the site then jsut build it and dont put your name any where near it!!

Don't even bother! useless arse!

That has headache and endless revisions written all over it. Take Rand's advice and run.
- PixelDrama0
definatly walk away, thats def.def.definatly not worth doing as a portfolio peice, i sympathize with you as this has happened to me several times. From experience, its not worth it.

The hire me for everything,
I did their last site, and they where pretty happy, but now her wife wants to put hands on it.there is no contract involved, and Im about to call them and offer to re design what I did, and if she still wants that, Im going to have to tell her no..
- jevad0
good idea meeklo

Why don't you remind him that folk aren't looking over his shoulder to tell him how he should take photo's, so why should you.
- vburo0
tell 'em the following with a polite voice:
FUCK OFF!!
- Meeklo0
Made GB
you have a point there..He is a photographer, he should know more than anyone, but unfortunally his wife seems to be in charge..
So Im not even talking to him now.
But its true, how would he feel if some 12 yealr kid, that shoots with a disposable camera came to his studio and tell him he is not shooting with the right lens..
- madeGB0
He he he, that's the first mistake I made when I got my first shoot. told him I wanted a rankin style b+w photo's - ahhh! silly me!
- easy_target0
actually having thought about it and read some more inspiring comments........I'd have to say that you should tell them that the design suck ASS and you dont want any thing to do with it...(in your politest nicest telephone voice of course).....
- Meeklo0
I wish I could do that easy-target..
haha
