Ok, so i have a few questions.
First off, does anyone either have a file of or know a place where i can download a spraypaint splatter, i am looking for one for a show poster i am doing.
and second, I see people that take images and make them ai. files and i was wondering how you go about doing it. iknow that bitmap trace in flash does it but how do i get it so that its really crisp and clear.
I could really use the help.
Thank you

you hand trace that shizzle. start at the larger shapes and build layers with the details on top.

Well, I know you can trace it by hand, but i am talking about when people use a photograph or something with alot of little detail in it.. I have seen people that have really detailed pictures that are turned into .AI but i have no idea how they do it? its crazy

there's an auto-trace tool in illustrator that selects areas of color. maybe try that.

photo realistic vectorization is best done in Flash.. but it's not just a simple click of the button. the artists you are refering to have probably been tuning their technique for several years. all about getting the right image values to start with, and tweaking the conversion settings in Flash.
i'd google it for some tutorials, unlikely someone here is gonna type a step by step.
Silhouette is also a handy vectorizer:

Adobe Streamline (no longer in dev) and Vectorize both do this.

most auto trace programs always look kinda janky...like scarabin said, if you really want clean tight art you will have to put yer time in.

for best results: [in a pinch]
needed:
digital camera 2.1 mp or above
black spray paint
white posterboardspray paint on poster board
take highest res photo of paint on posterboard
us eone of the trace programs mentionedi use corel trace which is bundled with the corel graphics suite but any will do
the larger the image the more accurate the trace

This is quite true. Even vectorizer and streamline suffer from this. I traced one photo and had so many paths me nuts. And it was not clean-looking at all. But that's what happens when you take the easy way out.

I have seen sites like hydro74's who offer free vectors and he has stuff on there i am possitive are photos and i know he didn't trace.. i am guessing he just bitmap traced it

i second why cloned said...
.. I've used pretty much every trace program out there... and CorelTrace is rather impressive...
... give it a shot - or do something more rewarding - draw it yourself.

I dont know nuffin about Flash but if it was a print job I'd be using a Bitmapped TIF. Is that totally unhelpful?

a bit offtopic.. does anyone know how to add new pages to one document in illustrator? the same way as you can do it in freehand: having just one ai file with more than one "page" inside.
thanks.

off topic: i used a little add on proggie called " Multipage" I beleive, and it does the trick.(adds mutliple pages to an .ai file.
ON TOPIC: Seriously, just save your time and life by using a TIFF. Youll end up not getting grey hairs tracing that thing, and maybe even get a hot date out of it! Seriously!

If you want to add multiple pages why don't you use a page layout program like InDesign. Illustrator's really built for artwork only.
