I've been out of web coding for a while, so maybe this is common knowledge now. But how do they do the fade out on the ticker without flash?

any short cut way to having the type negative space outlined within the circle? not quite a mask... not sure if i'm explaining this properly.
basically, is there a painless way to have the blue circle contour the type with coordinates? (without having to use the pentool, Flash may be the easy option...)
- but is there a way in Illustrator?ohhhhhsnap

It's an absolute div with a linear gradient from white to alpha 0...
div class="fade"></div>
div.fade {
position: absolute;
width: 100%;
height: 80px;
margin-top: -80px;
background-color: white;
background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%, white),...

If I'm understanding you correctly:
select the two letters. Go to window > Pathfinder (or somewhere under a submenu)
with the two selected, hit the first icon. Now you'll have a single shape. Select the new shape and the circle. Make sure the circle is in front (above) and with the two selected, hit the 2nd icon on the Pathfinder window.- you're the best.ohhhhhsnap
- actually, now that Ire-read what Isaid, the circle should be below.. but I guess in this case it doesn't matter the order...ESKEMA
